INTRODUCTION
In the mist of the alternated mountain ranges and valleys in the north, was a winding roads leades leading to a small town known as Maehongson, this small town is considered to be a dream come true of every tourists destination. Although, it takes long hours on a winding road through breath-taking sceneries, the delicate small city lives in misty fog valleys is worth a visit. The fascinting charm of beautiful nature and lively culture arts of hilltribes races known as Thai Yai or Shan, is the fascinating attraction that welcome tourists to visit.
During this winter season the beauty nature charms is calling to encounter the winding roads and thousands of sharp curves to sense the touch of fascinating world at the three mist valleys
THE LEGENDARY OF THE THREE MIST VALLEYS
The given name of the three mist valleys is probably easy to guess that Maehongson is a small town that was coverd in the three seasons. During the rainy season there was a misty fog and smoke which causes by the combustion of the hay during the preparation of growing rice in the paddy field.
There was an unknown legendary of the three mist valleys that, was an still unknown to most of the people back in the past 150 years ago. Maehongson forest and nature resources are still abundant. There were only Thai Yai (or Shan) or Thai hilltribes setting along the Thailand and Myanmar border. The only important of Maehongson was a by-pass of the Burmese troops that led to attack Ayuttaya.
During the reign of Phra Choa Mahotaraprated; the 5th King of Chiangmai had designated Choa Kaew Muang Ma to lead the troops on the patrol along the western frontier and caught wild elephants.
While patrolling, Choa Keaw Muang Ma had discovered the small village known as Pong Mue village settled on a plain ("pong" mean's salt lick). Today it is known as Ban Pong Mue.
Later on, Choa Keaw Muang Ma immigrate the local people to a small creek nearby and called this settlement as "Ban Mae Hong Son" and later, it is known as Maehongson.
In 1874, during the reign of King Inchyanon of Chiang Mai the population of Maehongson had increased. The leader of Thai Yai hilltribe "Chan-Galae" later was known as "Phrayasinghanatracha" had ruled Maehongson for 10 years. In 1900 King Rama 5th had designated to annex the territory of Muang Maehongson, Muang Khun Yuam, Muang Yuam and Muang Pai together and named it as "Western Chiang Mai Territory". Later, it was renamed as "Northern Phayab Territory" until the reign of King Rama 6th it was known as Maehongson until today.
